New Year’s Resolutions for Seniors

With a new year comes new opportunities. A chance to restart. This year, we propose simple, achievable goals to boost your quality of life.

Improve your mental health

From puzzles, to bingo, to a weekly craft station – improving your mental health can be simple and fun! Set a simple goal like reading 20 minutes everyday, doing the Sunday crossword each week, or participating in at least two activity sessions a week. Ask the staff for an activity schedule, and maybe even try something new!

Work on your physical stamina

Take advantage of the programs offered at your facility. Whether this is a class devoted to stretching, or coordination, or even a lap around the campus bike/walking trail, your facility is sure to offer ways to keep your physical health high.

Catch up with an old friend

It’s easy for time to slip away and to therefore lose connection with friends and loved ones who live far away. This year, take time once a week to call a friend. Maybe even invite them over for dinner, or send them a handwritten note in the mail. These connections are priceless!

Take time to enjoy the simple things

With a full schedule of activities, remember to take time to relax and reflect on the things that are important to you. Spend time with a loved one, enjoy a relaxing cup of coffee in the morning, reread a favorite book, or simple make an effort to spend more time outside. Remember the little things, and make an effort to incorporate them in your daily activities.
